Q: Tell us about Direct Radiology. What’s your focus?
A: Founded in 2012, Direct Radiology is one of the fastest growing teleradiology practices in the country based on the quality of work we do. I had previously worked with Direct Radiology on some projects. They approached me afterward to discuss the company’s desire to improve their radiologist’s reading experience, client’s IT implementation and maintenance experience, and develop new software enhancements that could further streamline the world of teleradiology. I jumped at the chance to be part of Direct Radiology.
Q: Do you have any special plans or new products in the works?
A: Yes, we have been working to introduce Direct Radiology’s new technology enhancements at RSNA. This includes an Automated Relevant Prior Query Retrieve, Report Monitoring & Delivery, and Reverse DICOM Report Delivery. We felt a responsibility to address some of the pain points radiologists, technologists and clinicians experience on a day-to-day basis by implementing programs to improve our overall customer and patient care.
Q: Please tell us a bit more about these new technologies and how they are being implemented.
A: We are most excited about our Automated Query Retrieve software, which will save valuable time for both the on-site technologists and our radiologists. The system automatically looks through the on-site PACS archive and pulls relevant prior exams and reports using a proprietary algorithm we developed. This saves technologists time, as this had been a manual feature, and improves the quality of our reports by allowing our radiologists to have access to prior exams more consistently and faster than before.
Our Reverse DICOM Report Delivery provides an optional, new and efficient, HIPAA compliant method of electronic report delivery. If desired, we can send the completed reports directly back to the on-site PACS system. The report displays as a DICOM image alongside the study images in the PACS.
We have also improved our Report Monitoring & Delivery by adding automated monitoring for up-time. This technology monitors the servers and provides Direct Radiology with a notification if there is a problem with the flow of cases or reports so they can fix it fast – before the client even notices.
